（八）on the average該短語表示“平均而言；一般來說” 。如：

On the averageI read six books a month. 我平均一個月讀六本書。
How many pictures do you take each timeon the average? 每次使用你通常會拍多少照片？

（九）on any account該短語表示“無論如何” 。如：

A doctor should never,on any account, break his confidence. 醫(yī)生無論如何都不能失去信心。
This switch must not be touchedon any account. 無論如何都不要觸摸開關(guān) 。

【注意】

該短語的否定表達為：on no account，表示“決不；切莫” 。如：

Employees muston no accountmake personal phone calls from the office. 員工絕對不許在辦公室打私人電話。
On no accountshall you go to bed with the gas on. 您無論如何不可讓煤氣開著，自己去睡覺。

（十）on second thoughts該短語表示“（要改變主意）又一想，轉(zhuǎn)念一想” 。thought也可以用單數(shù)形式。如：

Can I have a cup of coffee, please? - actually,on second thoughts, I'll have a beer. 請來杯咖啡——說實話，我改主意了，來杯啤酒好了。
On second thought, I'm going home on this vacation. 仔細想了之后，我打算回家休假。

二、更多常用短語（十一）on time
該短語表示“按時；準時” 。如：

To our astonishment, they arrivedon time. 使我們驚訝的是，他們準時到了。
He will comeon timeeven though it rains. 即使下雨，他還是會準時來的。

（十二）on board該短語表示“在船（車或飛機）上” 。如：

Many of the touristson boardhad begun bargaining with the tradesman. 船上的很多旅客開始與商人討價還價了。
The hijackers kept the piloton boardthe plane as (a) hostage. 劫機者把飛機駕駛員扣留在飛機上作為人質(zhì) 。
